Klaviyo vs MailerLite

A practical, evidence-led decision guide. Product capabilities and limits are separated from anything that would require hands-on testing.

More ecommerce features are useful only if someone will use and maintain them. A shop sending a newsletter and a welcome sequence may have a good reason to keep a narrower email setup. A shop whose campaigns depend on order events, repeat purchases and detailed customer segments has a different brief.

Evaluate Klaviyo for that store-event-led brief and MailerLite for a newsletter-led program whose required integrations and automations are established. This page helps decide how much system you need. The separate Klaviyo vs Omnisend comparison assumes you already want an ecommerce-focused shortlist.

The same 5,000-person newsletter

Our hypothetical shop has 5,000 permission-eligible contacts, all included in each platform's selected billable population. Four campaigns require 20,000 sends. Five hundred of those people also receive two welcome messages during the month, making 21,000 marketing sends altogether.

That is a deliberately aligned audience. It is not a claim that exporting the same number of rows automatically produces the same bill. We explain the counting problem below.

Selected monthly email offerPrice and currencyContact and send allowance
MailerLite Comfort, checked 18 OctoberUSD495,000 subscribers; 50,000 emails
Klaviyo Marketing, UK pricing page with USD selected, checked 17 OctoberUSD1005,000 active profiles; 50,000 emails

Both selected send allowances accommodate the modeled 21,000 messages. The monthly difference is USD51, or USD612 over twelve months if the same prices and workload persist. Taxes, optional products, migration and additional services are excluded. MailerLite's annual presentation and Klaviyo's first-month promotion are not the quotes used here.

MailerLite Comfort also has feature limits: 50 automations, ten forms, ten websites and three users in the checked presentation. More elaborate work may require a different tier even when the email allowance fits. Klaviyo's optional products were unchecked in the selected quote; do not silently add them to the claimed USD100 package.

What would justify the extra system?

Consider three questions before comparing another feature checklist. Which store event changes the message? Which customer attribute changes the audience? Who owns the connection when an event is late, duplicated or missing?

If the only answer is a monthly newsletter sent to a stable segment, the more elaborate system needs a clear justification. If the answer includes product-specific follow-ups, purchase-dependent exclusions and repeat-customer segments, investigate whether the simpler platform actually supplies the required event flow and operator controls. A basic integration logo does not settle that.

Time matters as much as the invoice. Assume the more complex setup needs two additional operator hours per month at USD30 per hour: USD60 of hypothetical labor. Combined with the selected USD51 subscription difference, the planning difference is USD111 monthly. This does not say Klaviyo takes longer; it shows how sensitive the purchase is to an unmeasured staffing assumption. Replace the hours with observations from a permitted evaluation.

The downloadable worksheet keeps subscription differences separate from those assumed hours. Neither number is a revenue forecast or a claim of incremental orders.

Five thousand subscribers can become a different bill

Klaviyo's active profiles are not simply the people on a newsletter list. Non-consenting checkout profiles can be active and billable; suppressed profiles are treated differently. Consent still governs marketing eligibility. MailerLite describes unique active subscribers across groups and excludes unsubscribed and bounced records.

For example, 5,000 subscribed readers plus 800 additional active, billable store profiles would make 5,800 Klaviyo active profiles under that assumption. The selected 5,000-profile quote would no longer establish the cost. Do not use that example to assume all 800 would be excluded by MailerLite either: inspect their actual status and the integration behavior. Quote the real population in each system.

Klaviyo's profile-based plan adjustments and message-overage preferences are separate settings. MailerLite's paid subscriber upgrade rules and Comfort send ceiling are also different boundaries. Obtain the exact account terms before turning a modeled month into a budget.

Keep the simpler option in contention

Use permitted test records for a purchase, refund, unsubscribe and a reader with no order history. Write the desired message and exclusion rules before checking them. Compare the export, operator explanation and reconciliation work, not the apparent sophistication of the dashboard. BenPicks has not completed that trial or measured a conversion lift for this pair.

Stay with a newsletter-led setup when it covers the real program cleanly. Shortlist Klaviyo when the store-event requirements justify the added system, and compare another ecommerce candidate before committing. The email migration checklist helps preserve consent and suppression through either decision.
