Klaviyo alternatives when your store needs a different fit
A practical, evidence-led decision guide. Product capabilities and limits are separated from anything that would require hands-on testing.
Replacing Klaviyo makes sense when you can name the problem the replacement will solve. A shop struggling with a complex setup needs a different shortlist from a publisher who mostly sends newsletters. A high invoice might come from a billable-population mismatch, a seasonal send peak or a feature you genuinely need elsewhere.
Start by describing the work you would lose if Klaviyo disappeared tomorrow. Then choose the smallest shortlist that can preserve it. The options below are evaluation candidates based on documentation, not winners from a BenPicks store trial or deliverability study.
Match the alternative to the reason for leaving
| The work you need to preserve | Candidate to evaluate | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| An ecommerce-focused email and SMS program | Omnisend | Check the selected plan's email allowance and price SMS separately |
| Order-event-led email sequences | Drip | Confirm exact integration, active-person counting and exits |
| Newsletters, signup forms and a welcome sequence | MailerLite | Do not assume every Klaviyo event or segment transfers |
| A campaign-led program with required automations | Moosend | Establish how store data arrives and which features the quote includes |
| Working flows, a manageable bill and no defined gap | Keep Klaviyo | A switch needs a concrete benefit, not a new logo |
These routes are not interchangeable. A lower-cost newsletter plan does not replace an ecommerce program unless it supports the events, exclusions and reporting you depend on. Conversely, a simple newsletter does not automatically need the broadest customer-data setup.
First separate a busy month from a permanent problem
Imagine a shop with 5,000 permission-eligible contacts. Four campaigns and two welcome messages to 500 included newcomers require 21,000 sends. Twelve campaigns with the same welcome group require 61,000. Audience size is unchanged; the peak month adds 40,000 sends.
The retained 17 October 2026 UK pricing page, with USD selected and the first-month promotion excluded, showed Klaviyo Marketing at $100 for 5,000 active profiles and 50,000 emails. The peak example exceeds that allowance by 11,000. It needs a covering quote, not an assumption that the normal-month plan continues unchanged.
Our 18 October Omnisend selector, with the upfront promotion disabled, showed USD81 Standard with 60,000 sends and USD90 Pro with unlimited email sending at 5,000 contacts. The same peak model exceeds Standard by 1,000. Eligibility, counting and service conditions still matter. A discounted introductory amount is not the ongoing price. SMS credits and usage remain a separate line item.
These selected prices help locate the purchase boundary; they are not a complete feature-matched cost ranking. MailerLite, Drip and Moosend need their own covering quote and billable-population reconciliation before an invoice comparison is meaningful.
When a narrower tool is a sensible choice
A store owner who sends campaigns, collects consent and runs a modest welcome sequence may prefer a simpler operating routine. Test that brief against Drip vs MailerLite and Sender vs Moosend. The latter includes a free-plan capacity example; it is not an ecommerce feature-equivalence claim.
A store using order, refund and repeat-purchase events should begin with Klaviyo vs Omnisend or inspect Drip's documented integration. Write down which historic events must remain available. An import that transfers email addresses successfully can still leave the operating program incomplete.
A switching threshold you can edit
Assume ten hours to map and rebuild flows, four to check them and three for the handoff: 17 staff hours. At an illustrative common-currency rate of 35, labor is 595 units. Add 70 of overlapping subscriptions: 665 in total. A verified like-for-like saving of 30 per month would take 22.17 months to recover that cost.
That is a transparent planning example, not a vendor migration estimate or a prediction of savings. Download the calculation and include your team's real training and verification work. If the proposed move is meant to improve sales rather than reduce the invoice, define how you will measure that separately; this worksheet cannot predict a conversion uplift.
Avoid losing the records that make the system safe to operate
Preserve consent evidence, unsubscribes, suppressions, segment definitions and the original exports. For each important sequence, record entry, exit and exclusion rules before rebuilding it. Do not delete useful customer records simply to force two contact counts to match, or treat billable status as marketing permission.
Use the migration checklist to plan the handoff. Keep Klaviyo if the current problem can be resolved with a corrected audience definition or a better-fitting plan. Replace it when the alternative solves a specific recurring problem and preserves the workflows you actually need.
Which Klaviyo alternative should you evaluate first?
Omnisend for an ecommerce email and SMS brief
Start with Omnisend when both email and SMS belong in the replacement brief. Its selected email prices above are useful budget references, but the SMS part needs its own allowance and destinations. Write down the channels you actually use before comparing a combined bill. Moving because the email column looks cheaper can leave an important part of the program unpriced.
Drip for an order-event-led program
Drip belongs on the shortlist when the buying question centres on store behaviour and follow-up sequences. Take one purchase journey and list the exact events and fields it needs. Preserve the rule for ending it after a repeat purchase, refund or consent change. Review the documented store integration rather than assuming that all ecommerce platforms share the same event history or workflow controls.
MailerLite for a simpler newsletter operation
Consider MailerLite when most of the recurring work is campaigns, forms and welcome emails. Simplification is useful if it removes work you do not need; it is costly if someone must rebuild missing store behaviour manually. Use the Drip comparison linked below to separate a genuine requirement from a feature retained only because the old platform had it.
Moosend for a campaign-led replacement
Evaluate Moosend when campaign capacity and the required automations are the centre of the job. Confirm the covering contact band and how the necessary store data reaches the account. An unlimited-campaign-send label does not settle message-type limits, integration requirements or the cost of moving existing rules.
Are cheaper or free Klaviyo alternatives enough?
A free plan can be a sensible option for a small, simple program, but it is not a like-for-like replacement merely because it holds email addresses. Compare billable people, sends, channels, event handling and the permanent feature tier. Trial access to paid features should not become the operating plan by accident.
Before switching, create a short keep-or-replace list: the sequences you must preserve, the reports someone actually uses and the manual work you want to remove. If no alternative covers the essential list within the real budget, keep Klaviyo while you resolve the specific gap. This page offers a shortlist, not a promise that changing platforms will improve sales.
