Mailchimp Alternatives

A practical, evidence-led decision guide. Product capabilities and limits are separated from anything that would require hands-on testing.

A rising Mailchimp invoice is a reason to inspect the account before moving it. Which contacts are billable? How often do you send? Which automations actually run? Cleaning up a misunderstood meter may be easier than rebuilding a working newsletter elsewhere.

If switching is justified, MailerLite is a sensible first evaluation for a newsletter with forms and welcome emails. Compare Moosend when campaign frequency and automation are central. beehiiv deserves a separate look when publishing and newsletter monetization drive the business. Brevo belongs in the comparison when send volume and transactional needs change the purchasing question.

This page helps narrow that decision. It does not claim that any provider will improve inbox placement or sales: BenPicks has not run a controlled deliverability test.

This is not a universal cheapest-to-best ranking. A retailer with order-triggered messages has a different requirement from a writer sending one weekly issue. If Mailchimp's integrations and reporting are doing necessary work, include their replacement cost in the decision.

Give every vendor the same month

Take 5,000 eligible contacts, including 500 new subscribers. Four full-list campaigns require 5,000 × 4 = 20,000 sends. A three-message welcome sequence for the 500 new people adds 1,500, for 21,500 sends in the month. We assume every welcome message falls in that same month; actual signup dates change the timing.

At eight full-list campaigns, the total becomes 41,500 sends. This example makes frequency visible without pretending that a vendor's contact tier or “unlimited” label answers every billing question.

MailerLite documents Comfort's send allowance as ten times the selected tier's subscriber ceiling. At a hypothetical 5,000 ceiling, that means 50,000 sends, so either example fits the send budget on paper. It does not establish the selected tier's price, automation entitlement or suitability. A list of 5,001 needs a fresh tier check.

Moosend's unlimited campaign sending remains subject to its terms and does not mean every optional service is included. Brevo's send-led pricing needs an exact monthly allowance and contact-feature check. For beehiiv, include the publishing features you need rather than comparing a newsletter platform's entry price with another product's advanced automation plan.

Use the email cost calculator and download the scenario worksheet. Neither substitutes for the current checkout quote.

Audit the contact total before exporting

Suppose an account has 20,000 records: 2,000 unsubscribed, 1,000 invalid and 500 additional duplicate records, with those groups defined as disjoint. The hypothetical permission-eligible candidate set is 16,500, before further consent checks. That is a data-reconciliation example, not a claim that Mailchimp bills all four groups identically.

Mailchimp distinguishes subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed, archived and cleaned contacts. Count the categories according to the current plan's rules. Do not delete evidence of an unsubscribe or reactivate suppressed people to make an import look successful. If the dataset's groups overlap, our subtraction is not valid until the duplicates are resolved.

Migration has a price even when the import is free

Price the handover as a list of jobs: reconcile contacts, rebuild forms, map tags, recreate automation rules and retain historical reports. Ask which jobs an offered migration service actually covers. Include any parallel subscriptions and the campaign you might delay; a free import does not make those costs disappear.

Keep a copy of the original account exports and suppression records. Recreate one form and one welcome sequence, verify status mapping and authentication, and send only a permission-eligible internal test. Historical campaign reports, website integrations and automation logic do not automatically transfer with a CSV of addresses.
