Frase can research a topic, draft in a configured voice, score content for search and AI-answer surfaces, publish to a CMS, watch a page for decay and prepare a repair. It can also host content and put an answer widget in front of visitors. That breadth is the attraction—and the main buying risk. A tool that can change production pages needs a stronger evaluation than a tool that only exports a brief.
> Distinctive strength: Frase can connect research, configured drafting, optimization, CMS publishing and post-publication decay repair in one workflow. > > Where it stops being an advantage: Because it can touch production pages, its scores and automation require stronger approval and rollback controls than a brief-only tool.
BenPicks has not run a controlled Frase productivity, ranking, citation or publishing-safety test. We do not claim its SEO/GEO scores predict outcomes or that its generated content is ready to publish. This page supports the decision that matters: will the connected workflow remove valuable hand-offs under controls your team can trust, at a complete cost and data boundary you accept?
The decision in 60 seconds
| Your requirement | Shortlist implication |
|---|
| One site and up to ten articles/month | Starter exposes the full loop at the lowest current price, but with one seat and the smallest monitoring/API allowances. |
| Three-person team across several sites | Professional includes 3 seats/5 sites and 40 articles; price extra users and optional overages explicitly. |
| Agency production and reporting | Scale raises sites, seats, volume, engines and history; Enterprise is required for white label/client portal/SSO. |
| Automated content repair | Content Guard waits for approval by default; preserve that gate until staging and rollback tests pass. |
| Visitor-facing answers | Frase Answers creates first-party questions but also a live answer-quality and data-governance obligation. |
| Proprietary content with a strict data policy | Review the broad Customer Data license and industry-benchmark contribution; opt out if required. |
| Contractual uptime remedy | Enterprise advertises a custom SLA; no public self-serve SLA was established. |
What does Frase include now?
Frase is no longer just a brief builder and optimizer. Its current platform describes a loop with several distinct authority levels:
- topic/SERP research, outlines and briefs;
- AI-assisted drafting, visuals and brand-voice work;
- proprietary SEO and GEO scoring;
- page audits and internal-link suggestions;
- publishing to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity and Wix;
- FraseCMS hosting;
- Content Guard for detecting decay and proposing a fix;
- daily AI Visibility prompt monitoring;
- Frase Answers, a site widget that answers from owned content and records visitor questions;
- API, MCP and webhooks for integrations.
Those are not one decision. Research access is lower risk than draft generation. Draft generation is lower risk than production publishing. Production publishing is different again from a visitor-facing answer system. List each capability you intend to enable and the person who owns its failure mode.
The most important split is create-side autonomy versus repair-side autonomy. Frase says the Agent can draft and publish when enabled. Content Guard watches existing pages and waits for approval by default, unless a buyer opts into selected autonomous fixes. Test and govern those switches separately.
Which Frase plan fits the workload?
The public USD pricing checked on 27 August 2026 showed:
| Plan | Monthly | Annual equivalent | Monthly capacity | Team/site boundary |
|---|
| Starter | $49 | $39/month | 10 articles, 50 audit pages, 25 AI generations | 1 seat, 1 site |
| Professional | $129 | $103/month | 40 articles, 250 audit pages, 100 AI generations | 3 seats, 5 sites |
| Scale | $299 | $239/month | 100 articles, 1,000 audit pages, 350 AI generations | 5 seats, 10 sites |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom, white label, SSO/SAML, dedicated manager/SLA |
Professional and Scale list extra seats at $29/month. Starter stops when it reaches its allowance. Professional and Scale can enable pay-as-you-go, but it is off by default. That default is good billing hygiene; the buyer must still read the exact per-unit prices before enabling it.
Monitoring capacity also changes:
- Content Guard watches 10/75/300 pages on Starter/Professional/Scale;
- AI Visibility tracks 50/200/500 prompts;
- engine coverage grows from ChatGPT and Google AI to Perplexity, then Claude and Gemini;
- API quotas are 250/1,000/3,000 requests per month;
- reporting history is current-only/3 months/12 months, while AI Visibility has a separate history model beginning at 30 days on Starter.
These allowances change quickly and affect the product's usefulness more than the plan name. Verify checkout and in-account usage before purchase.
Because the offering combines monthly/annual billing, optional overages, extra seats, hosting tiers and custom terms, BenPicks omits `Offer` schema rather than publishing one deceptive price.
What will Frase really cost?
Representative arithmetic:
- Starter annually: $39 × 12 = $468/year.
- Professional annually: $103 × 12 = $1,236/year.
- Professional plus two added seats: $103 + (2 × $29) = $161/month equivalent, or $1,932/year.
- Scale annually: $239 × 12 = $2,868/year.
- Scale plus FraseCMS Basic: $239 + $19 = $258/month equivalent, or $3,096/year.
- Scale plus FraseCMS Pro: $239 + $99 = $338/month equivalent, or $4,056/year.
Professional's 40-article capacity yields $103 / 40 = $2.575 subscription-equivalent per article only if every slot is used. That is not a true production cost. Add source research, prompts/generation actions, editing, fact-checking, CMS review, corrections, monitoring, seats, hosting and overages.
The correct formula is:
effective monthly cost = subscription + seats + hosting + overages + integrations + research/editing + review/rollback + reporting
Measure time removed and time created. A connected tool may eliminate copy-paste while creating more source reconstruction, generated-fact review or CMS QA. The result after correction matters—not the speed of the first draft.
The general Terms also deserve attention. They describe annual renewal unless an order states otherwise, a 30-day non-renewal notice for that structure and no refunds for paid fees. Reconcile the actual self-serve order, billing screen and renewal date before committing.
Is Frase's SEO/GEO score evidence of quality?
No proprietary score is the finished decision. Frase positions its scores around search optimization and AI-answer/citation readiness. They can surface missing concepts and structure a review. They cannot establish by themselves:
- factual accuracy;
- first-hand expertise;
- useful differentiation;
- legal/commercial claim safety;
- a ranking gain;
- an AI citation;
- reader conversion.
The editor should retain each accepted recommendation and the reader benefit it produces. Rejected suggestions are valuable evidence too: duplication, wrong intent, irrelevant competitor language, unsupported breadth or damage to clarity all reveal whether the workflow fits.
An improved score with more generic prose is a failed result. A lower-scoring page can be the stronger page when it answers the purchase question with better evidence and fewer unsupported claims.
How should Content Guard be controlled?
Keep approval as the default until the exact detection, diff, publishing and rollback path has passed on staging. Content Guard watches configured pages for Google rank/traffic decay, drafts a fix and republishes after approval. Buyers can opt into autonomous low-risk fixes.
Before allowing any production action:
- define which pages the system may watch;
- separate informational content from prices, legal, safety and high-revenue pages;
- preserve Search Console evidence and the live revision before a proposed fix;
- require a visible diff with sources and affected fields;
- test metadata, canonical, schema, links, images and CMS status;
- restore the prior version successfully;
- assign the person who reviews false alerts and failed publishes;
- set a small eligible change class before considering autonomy.
“Decay” is a symptom, not a diagnosis. A page can fall because demand changed, a competitor improved, the query intent shifted, internal links disappeared, the page became technically inaccessible or measurement changed. Rewriting text is not always the fix.
Does AI Visibility measure real buyer exposure?
It measures repeated vendor-run observations of selected prompts, not every private interaction. Frase documents daily monitoring across engines by tier, including answer text, citations, momentum and competitive views. Its free checker also says a small probe is a snapshot because AI engines constantly rewrite answers.
For each monitored prompt, retain:
- the buyer question and why it matters;
- engine, locale and timestamp;
- answer and citation evidence;
- changes across repeated observations;
- first-party referral/lead evidence where available;
- the content or commercial action triggered.
Do not report “visibility rose” without saying which prompts and engines changed. Do not infer causation from a page edit. AI Visibility does not auto-fix content, which is the correct boundary; keep monitoring evidence separate from the decision to publish.
Should you put Frase Answers on the site?
Only after treating it as a live product, not a harmless content widget. Frase Answers responds from owned content, cites site pages and records the questions visitors type. That can reveal better demand than a generic keyword list. It also creates risks:
- an answer can be incomplete, stale or overconfident;
- visitor questions can contain personal or confidential data;
- bad source content becomes bad answers;
- citations can point to an unsuitable page;
- the team needs escalation and no-answer behavior;
- logged questions need a defined privacy/retention purpose.
Test adversarial questions, unsupported questions, prices, comparisons, legal/safety topics and prompt injection. Show clear boundaries and a human contact path. Keep high-risk advice out of the answer scope. The free tier does not make deployment costless if governance work is missing.
What does FraseCMS change?
FraseCMS can keep research, content and monitoring connected. Current public tiers are:
- Free: 100,000 page views/month, 25GB bandwidth, Frase subdomain and badge;
- Basic: $19/month, 250,000 views, 100GB and a custom domain/subdirectory;
- Pro: $99/month, one million views and 500GB.
Frase says a page view counts when served to a reader or pulled through the API. Paid overages are described at $1.00 and $0.50 per extra 1,000 views for Basic/Pro, with a default spend cap tied to the base price.
Hosting is an architecture decision. Verify DNS/domain ownership, canonical generation, sitemap/robots, structured data, redirects, cache behavior, uptime/remedy, backup/export, lock-in and migration. A convenient subdirectory is not proof that every SEO and operational requirement is correct.
Are the API, roles and security adequate?
They are procurement inputs, not automatic approval. Every plan advertises API access, with 250/1,000/3,000 monthly requests on self-serve tiers. Frase also documents MCP, HTTP use and webhooks. Test the exact endpoints, authentication, scopes, idempotency, errors, latency and monthly consumption. A small request count can disappear quickly if polling substitutes for a webhook.
Professional and above document Owner, Admin, Editor and Viewer roles. Enterprise adds SSO/SAML and stronger custom governance. Create representative accounts and test who can:
- connect or remove a CMS;
- publish and enable autonomy;
- read drafts, analytics and visitor questions;
- change billing/overages;
- issue API credentials;
- export or delete content;
- see client domains.
Frase publishes SOC 2 Type II attestation, GDPR alignment, encryption at rest/in transit, role-based controls and regular security reviews. Request the actual SOC report and examine scope, audit period, exceptions and relevant systems. A badge is not the report.
How does Frase use customer content?
The public terms provide a no-generalized-training statement, but they also grant a broad operating license and permit aggregated benchmarks. The 2026 Terms say Frase does not use Customer Data to train generalized AI/ML models in a way that learns across customers. They permit de-identified or aggregated data for analytics and service improvement.
They also grant Frase a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, create derivatives of and otherwise exploit Customer Data in connection with the Services and Frase's business. Legal review should reconcile that language with the confidentiality clause, DPA/order and intended content.
Frase may aggregate Customer Data into industry benchmarks. It says a published benchmark requires at least ten contributing customers, removes identifying information and supports prospective opt-out by email (or enterprise DPA) within 24 hours. Previously published anonymous aggregates cannot be retracted.
Privacy terms retain account data while active and for a reasonable period afterward. Managed-account conversations/actions can remain so the team can use the service; backup data may be isolated until deletion is possible. Obtain exact artifact-level deletion terms for sensitive drafts, integrations and visitor questions.
Generated output is not warranted as unique, non-infringing, accurate or fit for purpose. Human source and rights review remains mandatory.
When should you exclude Frase?
Choose another route or postpone when:
- the only desired outcome is a higher proprietary score;
- generated drafts require more correction than the removed hand-offs save;
- no one can own production permissions and rollback;
- Content Guard would be enabled without a staging/diff gate;
- visitor answers cannot be governed like a real site feature;
- plan limits, seats, prompts, audit pages or API quota do not fit the workload;
- the Customer Data license or benchmark contribution is unacceptable;
- exact retention/deletion cannot satisfy client policy;
- a self-serve uptime remedy is mandatory;
- a representative test produces no measurable decision or workflow advantage.
Compare Surfer SEO when granular editor guidance is the primary job, Semrush when a broader SEO/competitive toolkit is required, or browse the AI SEO category before granting any platform publishing access. Use Compare only after the same workload and governance gates are frozen.
A seven-day Frase test that produces evidence
- Select one decaying page, one new commercial brief and one governance-sensitive page. Preserve all baselines and CMS revisions.
- Generate research/brief evidence. Label accepted, duplicated, missing and irrelevant recommendations.
- Generate a draft only from approved sources. Count unsupported claims and source-reconstruction time.
- Apply SEO/GEO recommendations only where they improve the visitor's decision. Preserve rejected advice.
- Publish to staging. Verify status, metadata, canonical, schema, blocks, links, images and rollback.
- Configure Content Guard on the decaying page. Compare its diagnosis with Search Console and known causes; keep approval on.
- Track ten buyer prompts and retain the actual daily answers/citations, not only the score.
- Test Frase Answers with unsupported and adversarial questions, citations, escalation and logged-data rules.
- Test Owner/Admin/Editor/Viewer permissions plus CMS/API credential control.
- Exercise representative API/MCP calls and webhooks within the monthly quota.
- Review Customer Data license, benchmark opt-out, privacy retention, SOC report and integration permissions.
- Recalculate total subscription, seats, hosting, overages and human correction/review time.
- Apply predeclared pass conditions: zero unsupported publication claims, successful rollback, acceptable data terms, maximum correction time and minimum actionable monitoring findings.
BenPicks has not executed this protocol. It is a reader test plan, not an invented hands-on claim.
What remains unknown
No generally applicable public uptime percentage, measurement window and service-credit remedy was established for Starter, Professional or Scale. General terms expressly disclaim uninterrupted availability. Enterprise advertises an SLA, but its actual threshold and remedy are negotiated and cannot be imputed to self-serve buyers.
If uptime is material, obtain the signed commitment. Until then, the self-serve SLA field remains Unknown.
Verdict
Frase is most attractive when a team wants research, drafting, optimization, publishing and monitoring connected—and has mature controls for what that connection may change. Its current entry plans expose unusual breadth. Breadth is not evidence of safe autonomy.
Start with one complete staging cycle. Keep Content Guard approval enabled. Treat AI Visibility as sampled evidence and Frase Answers as a visitor-facing product. Review the Customer Data license and benchmark opt-out. If the workflow does not lower total corrected-production time while preserving factual quality, reversibility and governance, the integrated loop has not earned production authority.
