View evidence profile →Ahrefs has expanded from search and backlink research into a broader visibility platform. Brand Radar now maps how brands appear across AI answers and other discovery channels, while custom prompts track a smaller set of questions on a schedule.
That combination can be valuable for teams already using Ahrefs. It also creates a pricing and measurement decision that needs more care than “does it track ChatGPT?”

| Decision point | What the official source establishes |
|---|---|
| Best fit | Search and competitor research with broad AI-brand discovery in the same platform |
| AI discovery | Brand Radar covers search-backed prompts across supported AI systems and related channels |
| Custom monitoring | Prompts can run monthly, weekly or daily by platform and location |
| Included checks | Lite 150, Standard 300 and Advanced 600 checks/month in current official documentation |
| Standalone AI pricing | Official Help lists USD 199/month per AI index and USD 699/month for all platforms |
| Main caution | Official public pricing can vary by region; confirm the currency and package shown to your account |
Brand Radar's large prompt index is a discovery layer. It can surface brand mentions, citations, competitors and topics without requiring a team to preselect every prompt. Ahrefs says there is no cap on the number of brands or domains analyzed in that discovery workflow.
Custom prompts are the monitoring layer. You choose a question, AI system, location and frequency. Ahrefs counts one check as one prompt execution across one AI tool and one location. That definition matters because a modest prompt list can consume many checks when tracked daily across several platforms and markets.
The official Help Center lists Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and other supported systems. It also connects AI discovery with web visibility, search demand and emerging channels such as YouTube, Reddit and TikTok.
Coverage is not completeness. Ahrefs describes the broad data as search-backed prompts modeled from its keyword database. That is a useful methodology statement and a limit: it is not every private conversation, every wording or every personalized response.
Ahrefs' English Help Center listed one AI platform index at USD 199 per month and all platforms at USD 699 per month, including 2,500 custom-prompt checks. Custom-prompt packages were listed at USD 50 for 2,500 checks, USD 100 for 7,000 and USD 250 for 25,000, with overage rates varying by tier.
The public Brand Radar page displayed localized pound-sterling prices during the same research session. Ahrefs explicitly notes that prices may vary by region. BenPicks therefore treats the global price presentation as conflicted by locale, not as one universally applicable amount. Confirm the currency, tax, eligible base plan and current checkout total in your own account.
Ahrefs is strongest as a shortlist candidate when search research, competitor analysis and brand visibility already belong to the same team. Existing Lite-or-higher customers can use included custom-prompt checks to test a focused monitoring workflow before buying broader AI indexes.
It is a weaker fit when the main need is article drafting or a prescriptive optimization editor. Brand Radar tells you where a brand appears and which sources are cited; it does not replace editorial judgement or prove which page change caused a mention.
Start with five prompts tied to real commercial decisions, two locations and no more than two AI systems. Record the exact check consumption before expanding.
For each prompt, save:
Then use the broad discovery index to find topics the manual set missed. If the result is a longer report with no action owner, the tool has not yet proven its commercial value.
Both platforms now combine traditional SEO intelligence with AI visibility. Their data models, packaging and daily workflows differ. Semrush sells a named AI Visibility Toolkit with a per-domain base and 25 daily custom prompts. Ahrefs separates large platform indexes from check-based custom prompts and includes a small allowance on eligible core plans.
Do not choose from the advertised prompt count alone. Normalize platforms, locations, frequency, domains, history, exports and the conventional SEO features your team would otherwise buy separately.
Ahrefs belongs on the shortlist for teams that already value its search dataset and want AI visibility connected to source and competitor research. Begin with included custom checks when available. Delay a broad Brand Radar purchase until the team can show which decisions the extra coverage changes—and confirm localized pricing immediately before purchase.
